New WWE Universal Champion

It's been a hectic couple of weeks where WWE Raw's new "Universal Championship" is concerned. The Championship debuted at Summerslam when Finn Balor beat Seth Rollins to become the first WWE Universal Champion. And, unfortunately, Balor got injured, so his title reign became less than a day, and WWE had to scrap any plans they had for his run, and come up with something interesting to work with in the title picture.

Luckily they haven't dissappointed. This week was a fatal four way elimination match to determine the new champion, between Kevin Owens, Big Cass, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins. The match ended with a controversal, but interesting, end. Triple H came back to pedigree Reigns and give the pin to Seth, eliminating Reigns. Big Cass had already been eliminated at this point. Then, when it seemed like Triple H was going to either (a) Pedigree Owens and give Seth the second pin to let Seth win, or even (b) Get these two to fight it out because either way it's win/win right? He instead turns on Seth, giving the victory to Owens. The new universal champion is Kevin Owens.

People have been expecting Triple H to turn on Seth for a long time now, and set up a fued between them, however that was a long time ago, and I think that expectation died out, so much so that it was unexpected tonight. There's plenty of reason for this turn as well, with Seth having constantly needed the help of the Authority and, despite beating Reigns, failing to keep the WWE title, and then losing the Universal title to Balor. It'll be interesting to see if Owens becomes Triple H's new 'guy', which would work well, or if they'll keep away from that angle, leave Owens to it, and just concentrate on the now nicely set up fued between Triple H and Rollins. However, it'll also be interesting to see how Reigns factors in to all this. Triple H cost him his shot as well. Does this set up a Triple H, Reigns, and Rollins fued, or does Reigns get to be the challenger for Owen's title?

Also, if Owens gets to keep the title for multiple fueds, Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn for the WWE Universal Championship? Has to happen. Will Owens stay heel or eventually turn face? Either way, despite the temporary loss of Finn Balor, Raw has managed to become interesting again.
